The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) class is designed for students who need to develop their oral and written communication skills for further study in an English-speaking environment. This course prepares students for success in vocational and tertiary level academic environments where English is the language of instruction, such as TAFE colleges (Technical and Further Education) or university. Successful completion of EAP is one pathway for international students into LAB Melbourne's partner higher education provider LCI Melbourne in Collingwood, Melbourne.
In EAP, students develop their critical thinking skills by engaging with complex texts on a range of topics (such as science, technology, engineering, education, society and art), and discuss them with classmates, informal presentations and written essays.
In this course, students are assessed on their ability to:
- Comprehend lectures and articles.
- Deliver presentations of at least ten minutes in length.
- Plan, research, write and reference essays at least 1,000 words in length
